Senate

A senate is the name of a deliberative body, often the upper body of a legislature or as in the case of Nebraska, the only body of a unicamerial legislature. It as also typically used for the deliberative body of faculty in an institution of higher learning.

The original senate was the Roman Senate. Other senates are the United States Senate, the Canadian Senate, and the Australian Senate.
