He started and played most of his playing for Club Atlético Los Andes in the lower divisions of Argentine football. He became one of the most important members of his team, so much that he was named captain of the squad for his last two seasons. In April 2008 Ruiz Díaz was signed by Ecuadorian giants Emelec on a one year contract. Since his arrival to Emelec he struggled to be pat of the first team, and both the press and former Emelec's coach, Anibal Ruiz, considered him to be an unworthy player for Emelec. However, in time, he demonstrated to be a valuable member of Emelec's squad and he is at the moment the only foreign player in the Club to be considered for a posible contract extension into the next season.
