A fortified house is a type of building which developed in Europe during the Middle Ages.

The 'Irish Fortified House' is a building type that emerged in Ireland at the end of the 16th century resulting from military, social, economic and political changes taking place in Ireland (it has nothing to do with Fortified houses from Middle Ages Europe).
