School history

In 1959, the school became a full school with the first Secondary Four class; and in 1960, pupils sat for the Senior Cambridge Examinations for the first time. In 1969, within 11 years, the Primary School moved into the new premises at Highland Road with an enrolment of 1350 boys. That same year, the Secondary School became a single-session school.

With the establishment of the Primary School, the Secondary School was reorganised when there was a shift in emphasis towards technical education. Some premises were converted into machine and electrical workshops to cater to the needs of pupils of SGSS and three other neighbouring schools.

The Brothers of St. Gabriel's were at the helm of the school for 30 years (1953-1983) before the leadership was passed on to lay principals (1984- present).
