"Terminal research degree"

What, please, is a "terminal research degree"? It is a nomenclature I have not met before, and it sounds fatal. I am not editing it out because presumably the editor who made that entry knows what it means.Gordoncph (talk) 06:34, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a term from the US system where the PhD is the final degree and higher doctorates don't exist. I've removed it as it's irrelevant to a UK institution. Timrollpickering (talk) 10:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I am pleased to have it explained. In English English "terminal" often means "soon to be fatal"! Gordoncph (talk) 07:09, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
