Microsoft Sam is the default text-to-speech voice in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is used by the screen reader program built into the operating system.

Microsoft Sam has a strong following for TTS of choice in the Unreal Tournament Community. Made popular by famous professional UT player Element of the LCD clan. Do to |LCD|Element's popularity Microsoft Sam has been vilified as a god among TTS personalities.[citation needed]

It should also be noted that several players of the UT Community cafe, ra, and jujuman in particular dislike Microsoft Anna to such an extent that they emulate Windows xp within Windows 7 just to run Ventrilo solely for the purpose of listening to Microsoft Sam.
