Calculate Linux is a family of distributions, based on the Project Gentoo and fully compatible with it.

History

Calculate Linux The first release took place in June 2007 and was number 7.6, which corresponded to year and month of release. The distribution was originally distributed as stage4 archive containing the kernel source code and Portage, and was installed using the packagecalculate. Subsequently, the package calculate entered the stage4, which became available as a livecd image. All additional applications installed from the calculate overlay, which ensures 100% compatibility with Gentoo.

Distributions

Calculate Linux is a family of distributions, based on the Project Gentoo GNU/Linux and fully compatible with it. There are 3 such projects - Calculate Directory Server (CDS), Calculate Linux Desktop (CLD) (this line is released in two versions — first (KDE) is based on the KDE and the second — XFCE, which is the lightweight version for weak PCs) and Calculate Linux Scratch CLS):

  • Calculate Directory Server - can acts as a domain controller and allows to configure the Samba, Mail, Jabber, Proxy services and ets. using the simple unix-like commands through the «Calculate 2» utilities. When the calculate-server package (which is included into the Calculate 2 utilities (Apache 2 license)) exists, we release the new system version with regular one time at 2-3 months.
  • Calculate Linux Desktop KDE - is the graphical desktop based on KDE, which can performs the most of office tasks. The main feature is the quick installation, easy system updates and the ability to store user accounts on the server.
  • Calculate Linux Desktop XFCE - is the light version of the desktop, allowing to work on weak PC with RAM from 196 MB. The system supports the all KDE abilities. Appearance of your desktop in one single repeats KDE. Employees can easily work on different desktops, changing a Qt4 application for Gtk, the joint use the documents from the OS Windows files.
  • Calculate Linux Scratch - also is based on Gentoo and is intended primarily for administrators and all users, who want to have their own Linux distribution, which will be optimized for certain tasks. Using CLS you can create a bootable livecd and usb-flash distributions of any set of software you need.

The system ditributes on the LiveCD/DVD and allows to be installed on the HDD, USB-Flash or USB-HDD.
