Links to copyvios
Please don't provide direct links to copyvios, it is against policy Wikipedia:Copyrights#Linking to copyrighted works. This includes torrents. I have removed your link Nil Einne (talk) 18:14, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Responded on your talk page.
- Your link was to a torrent file on mininova not a 'search engine'. If you had linked to mininova itself I wouldn't have done anything although I expect others would find it objectionable. But a link to a torrent file is more definitely against policy. If you wish to dispute this, I suggest you take this to Wikipedia talk:Copyrights. Believe me though, you're seriously mistaken if you think people are going to say what you did not against policy or is no different to link to Google (although linking to a Google search string to find a Windows XP torrent would be no more acceptable). - Actually the primary contents of torrents files are not what most people would consider 'text'. Also the primary contents of a torrent file would in the vast majority of cases be the hash tree of the pieces. It does of course usually contain a link to the tracker site although this may often be in the form of a URL rather then an IP. (In other words, in many cases torrent files have absolutely no IP information.) BTW, when I said a link to mininova, I meant a link to the site itself, not a link to a specific torrent on the site. The same for example as linking to youtube is usually okay, but linking to a copyright violating work, like linking to Michael Jackson video or a TV series episode not put there with the permission of the copyright holder is not. (And believe me it's not, I've taken part in multiple discussions about this) Nil Einne (talk) 19:37, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
