Bar fight

On August 21, 2009, Steineger and his wife were at a bar in Kansas City, Kansas where Steineger got into a fight with another patron which left him with a black eye. He and another man were debating health care reform. The other patron was vehemently against reform proposals discussed by Congressional Democrats and the Obama administration, but Steineger is supportive of the ideas. Steineger said the man, "was just looking for someone to yell at" and that he, "got angrier and angrier, and it became a one-sided conversation" so he and his wife decided to leave. He then claims that after getting up to leave, he "took about 10 steps and turn[ed] around to make sure [his] wife [was] there…[the other man] had followed [him] and sucker-punched [Steineger]." However, the other man claims, through his attorney, Thomas F. McGraw, that Steineger was the one who started the fight by grabbing the other man's tie and taking a swing at him, but blocked his punch and swung back in self-defense, giving Steineger his black eye. McGraw says Steineger "is the primary aggressor." The fight was quickly broken up by other bar patrons and neither man filed a police report.[9]
