Jan Ligthart (January 11 1859 - February 16 1916) was a Dutch teacher and philosopher. He became known for his innovational educational methods and the modernization of the Dutch education system. He wrote many articles and books regarding education.
Family
Jan Ligthart was born on January 11, 1859 in Amsterdam. His father Cornelis Ligthart, was a Calvinist carpenter of Jewish origin. His mother Anna van Spall, daughter of a pastor, came from Klundert.
