Dashiell Robert "Dash" Parr is a child superhero in the Disney & Pixar motion picture The Incredibles who can run at super speeds, similar to The Flash in the DC Comics universe. He is the son of Bob and Helen Parr (aka Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl) and the middle child between older sister Violet Parr and younger brother Jack-Jack Parr.
"Dash has a lot of energy and a competitive spirit, so finding constructive ways to blow off steam proves nearly impossible. His frustration is soon released, however, when circumstances lead him to discover the true meaning of his name." - Official Pixar Website
The film
In the film, Dash gets into trouble by using his super speed to avoid detention while playing pranks on his teacher, Mr. Bernie Kropp. Despite his mother's admonition that they must hide their superhuman nature, a restriction that includes not participating in sports because it would not only be cheating but compromise their identities, Dash feels that he should be proud in using and displaying his powers. Helen is dismayed by the fact that Bob does not provide a united front in maintaining this rule, and even undercuts her by encouraging Dash in the use of his powers. Bob and Dash feel that Helen's restrictions, and her philosophy that "everyone is special" simply encourages mediocrity by ensuring that no one be special.
Like many young children, Dash often fights with his older sister, Violet due to the fact that he knows that she has a crush on one of her classmates, Tony Rydinger, and chafes against her authority when Helen puts Violet in charge in her absence.
When Bob is captured by the villain Syndrome, Helen journeys to Syndrome's lair, Nomanisan Island, to rescue him, but her plan is complicated by her discovery that Violet and Dash stowed away on her plane. Their lives are further jeopardized by Syndrome, who destroys their plane, in mid-flight, though Helen narrowly manages to bring her children to the island safely. After taking refuge in a cave, Helen tells the kids to stay there while she goes off to rescue their father, and tells them that they can use their powers to evade capture by Syndrome and his henchmen, telling Dash to run "as fast as you can".
The next day, the two siblings are subsequently detected by the island's security, and in fleeing from their captors, Dash and Violet use their powers for the first time in a tactical situation. The entire family is eventually captured by Syndrome, and though they escape, they learn that he has launched an immense robotic weapon, the Omnidroid, at Metroville. The family journeys to Metroville where they all use their powers in concert, along with Frozone, to destroy the robot.
In the aftermath, Bob and Helen decide to allow Dash to compete in track, but caution him to not use his powers too obviously that suspicion is aroused by the public. When a new villain, the Underminer, appears to wreak havoc on Metroville, the family now prepares to battle him together.
Events after the movie
In the video game, The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, Helen, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack are told to evacuate Metroville after they are surrounded by The Underminer's robots, but the four return just in time to watch as Mr. Incredible and Frozone seemingly slay The Underminer by crashing his machine onto a bigger machine, which creates an explosion.
Dash appears in the Disney on Ice production Disneyland Adventure.
Powers
Dash is a speedster with the ability to move at superhuman speed. His top running speed was shown in the video game to be over 190 mph. When running, he can evade being caught on videotape almost entirely. At high speeds he is also able to run on water, utilizing the property of surface tension. By using his speed in hand-to-hand combat, he can easily overpower opponents, including adults much larger than him.
He can apply his super speed to other uses as well. For example, he can lean out of a small raft or inflatable boat, and move his legs in a scissor-like fashion in order to act as an outboard motor, propelling himself, the boat, and some occupants for some distance before tiring, as when he, his sister and mother were travelled to Nomanisan Island in the film. When encased with his sister Violet in one of her spherical forcefields, he is capable of propelling the forcefield as well like a hamster ball, though it is unknown how the added mass affects his top speed.
Appearance
Dash is, described by Helen in the movie, "a highly competitive boy, and a bit of a showoff". He has blond hair and blue eyes (like his father) and slightly stocky. He also has freckles on his face.
