Daisy[1] is the fourth studio album by American alternative rock band Brand New, scheduled to be released through Interscope Records on September 22, 2009.[2][3]
Production
In an interview with Kerrang!, Jesse Lacey commented on the upcoming album's content: "It's a pretty exhausting record. It's quite dense and I think some of the decisions we made don't always go in the most obvious direction. We were thinking a lot more about what we'd want to play when we were up onstage rather than actually what you'd want to hear on a record."[4]
Release and Promotion
"When your young and you start a band you think you'll record and go onstage and that's all there is then suddenly someone wants to take your picture and ask your opinion on things, and your excited, your being paid attention to and you jump at that, looking back at it you realise it has nothing to do with why you started the band in the first place"
With the release of 'Daisy' the band stated in interview with UK based music magazine Rock Sound that they would not be talking or promoting 'Daisy' with any American media outlets, and that they would be dealing with very few internationally. On July 8 2009 it was reported that the band had named their new album 'And One Head Can Never Die' and that it would be released on September 21[6], around a week later the band announced the release of "At The Bottom"[7] Spin magazine's website announced the track listing and displayed the album art for Daisy in August 2009.[8], the first single from the now renamed fourth studio album 'Daisy' which would be released as a digital download on August 11 2009, no music video accompanied the release. The album was announced to have been mixed by Dave Sardy with production by Mike Sapone.[9][10][11]
In June 2009, UK music magazine Rock Sound claimed on their website that they had received a copy of the upcoming album, though it was, according to an image later posted by the editor, "incomplete."[12] The site published a "tentative" track listing and reported the incomplete version that they had received to be roughly 30 minutes long.[13][14]
On June 28 2009 the band appeared at Glastonbury Festival on the Other Stage where they previewed "Bought a Bride" and "Gasoline" similarly at Reading and Leeds Festivals the band also previewed them, the performances were filmed by the BBC however the band did not want their live performance broadcast and declined the BBC rights of use.[15][16]
With regard to touring with 'Daisy' "I think we want to be at home more than ever before" Jesse stated in Rock Sound, with Vinnie Accardi adding "We have become less ambitous about touring", despite this the band will preform a single headline date at Wembley Arena in the UK on January 23 2010, their largest UK headline appearance to date.[17][18] The band to coincide with the release of 'Daisy' embarked on a 34 date tour across the United States throughout all of October and November 2009, the tour will be with Thrice, Manchester Orchestra, Glassjaw.[19][20]
Reception
Andrew Kelham of Rock Sound praised the record highly "Its the kind of record that could - if promoted well - could be heralded as a standard bearer, a watershed moment or maybe even a classic" Scott Heisel of Alternative Press was slightly disappointed, stating; "it's entirely possible that the band simply wrote a good album this time around, not a great one"[21]
