Maine flood of 1987
On April 1-3,1987 The Kennebec River in Maine overflowed her Bank after 4-6 inches of rain and 6 plus feet of melting snow plus the combination of a still frozen ground. On April 1 sign that something was not right with the river could be seen as early as the morning when the river start to flood a parking lot in Augusta,Maine and the Hathaway parking lot in Waterville. By late afternoon water was spilling on to water st. in waterville by that evening most of the area was under as much as 5ft. of water. By April 2 the river finally crested at 34.1 ft. 21ft. above her normal 13 foot flood stage. The flood flooded 2,100 homes destroying 215 and cosing major damage to 240 in addition 400 small businesses were impacted and many roads and bridges were badly damage washed away. Losses were estimated a over $100 million($171 million in 2007)
