The mall was opened and developed in October 25, 1997. It is the 3rd SM Supermall opened in Quezon City after SM City North EDSA and SM City Sta. Mesa. During construction, the mall had been reported to house the country's second ice skating rink upon its opening, but this plan was hindered when Philippine President Joseph Estrada took over. The mall has 3 buildings: the main mall features main anchors like SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, 12 state-of-the-art SM Cinemas, SM Food Court, SM Bowling Alley, SM Appliance Center, Our Home, Sports Central, and SM Storyland. The mall has been expanded with an annex opened in May 14, 2004 which contains the Ace Builders Center (which transferred to the annex), the Event Center (transferred to the new annex because the SM Dept. Store will be occupying the space due to its renovation), and the palm strip with 3 restaurants and a stage in which some bands and guest artists perform. And over 100 stores and shops. Another annex opened last January 2009 wherein ACE builders Center, The Event Center are transferred. Few shops that had opened their respective stores in there are: Sbarro, Seen by Executive, George Optical, All Flip Flops, SugarHouse, Timezone, Lay Bare, and Under the Sea. As the technology evolves, SM City Fairview is now a certified Wi-Fi Zone.

  • SM Storyland

The SM Storyland renovate of First Quarter of February and open last May 2009. People who go to SM Storyland in SM City Fairview only have one story to tell: It’s fun, fun, fun, and more!

“It’s the newest of SM’s seven Storylands,” says John Louie Ruben, marketing associate. “We have thousands of people who come here on weekends.”

In case you don’t know the story of Storyland, it’s an indoor theme park that provides kiddie entertainment — from active to creative to imaginative play. It’s got the latest in kiddie rides including the City Rail that goes around the park, arcade games, a souvenir shop, and diners that go beyond popcorn and cotton candy.

A ride-all-you-can ticket is a steal at P280. The rides are child-friendly, guaranteed safe, and well-maintained. Among the popular kiddie rides that even adults would enjoy are the roller-coaster, the bump car, the balloon ride, and the Grand Carousel. But of course, parents can join their little ones. There are games for the whole family every Saturday with prizes given away by sponsors.

To add to its fun-tastic story, SM Storyland also has a Party Room where birthday parties can be held. And yes, kids, you can invite a Storyland mascot — Lionel, the king of Storyland, Ellie, the princess of Storyland, Sgt. March, or Eggbert the storyteller — to your birthday. There are party packages, like the Wands & Wishes that features a host magician with puppet, ventriloquist show, magic show, caricature artist, glitter tattoo, kiddie salon, juggling show, unicyclist show, dog and monkey show, among others.

And listen up, kids: Wouldn’t it be more fun if you joined the Club Storyland, for children 12 years old and under, that would entitle you to exclusive discounts and Storyland’s fun-filled bulletin starring the Storyland characters?

Indeed at Storyland, kids are guaranteed only happy endings.

  • National Bookstore

National Bookstore is the largest bookstore chain in the Philippines with 92 branches in the country.[1] It was set to open its first overseas branch, in Hong Kong, in September 2007.

Luck is only a small part of National Book Store's success. Through the hard work and powerful leadership of Socorro Cancio-Ramos and the late Jose Ramos with their family, the company has evolved from its humble beginnings into the biggest and strongest bookstore chain in the Philippines.

The first National Book Store started as a stall shop in Escolta before the Japanese occupation selling supplies, GI novels, and textbooks. When war broke out, strict book censorship forced them to shift their trade to soap, candies, and slippers. They bought their merchandise from wholesalers and peddled them to smaller retailers.

Liberation came, but the whole Escolta area was burned to the ground. Having all their stocks reduced to ashes left the couple with nothing but determination and an undying drive to succeed. And their persistence paid off. They were able to rebuild a barong-barong in the corner of Soler and Avenida Rizal in time to catch the post-war business boom. They went back to business using their door as a counter for selling textbooks, notebooks, pad paper, and pencils. Business went very well because during that time, there were only a few stores that sold school supplies and books. National Book Store's opening was strategically timed to welcome the first postwar school year.

1948 brought another trial to the Ramos' life. Typhoon Gene destroyed their store and soaked all the merchandise. But this did not dampen the spirit and tenacity of the couple to pursue their dream and rebuild National Book Store. Adversity forced them to work harder. They slept for only three hours a day, spending the rest of their hours at work. They were eventually able to construct a two-story building with a mezzanine, which was to become their retail store for many years.
