Jim Murphy is an American author of history books for children. He was awarded the Newbery Honor twice: in 2004 for An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 and in 1996 for The Great Fire .

His first published book was Weird and Wacky Inventions in 1978.

He is married to author Alison Blank.
