Celebration - The Video Collection is a DVD greatest videos compilation by singer Madonna. Released by Warner Bros. Records on September 29, 2009, the release will accompany the greatest hits Celebration.[1] The collection follows on from her other greatest videos compilations The Immaculate Collection (1990) and The Video Collection 93:99 (1999).

The compilation spans from 1983's "Burning Up" to the 2009 single "Celebration" and includes the controversial videos of "Papa Don't Preach", "Like a Prayer", "Justify My Love" and "Erotica", the latter two having been banned by MTV for sexually provocative themes. [2] It will also include the popular "Ray of Light", which was lauded with the video of the year award at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.[3]

Background

The DVD release of the greatest hits was officially announced on August 25, 2009. It includes 27 music videos which have never appeared on a Madonna DVD compilation, including unedited and never before seen footage of "Justify My Love".[4] The compilation will also include rare videos including "Burning Up", "Into the Groove", "True Blue", "Who's That Girl", "I Want You", "I'll Remember" and "Erotica", who make their DVD debut. It also includes collaborations with contemporary directors such as Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Jonas Åkerlund, David Fincher, Mark Romanek, Chris Cunningham and Luc Besson.

Another video collection will also be available as part of the audio Digital Premium Version, which includes 38 audio tracks and 30 MP4 music videos.

The DVD includes most of Madonna's music videos, although it excludes "Everybody", "Gambler", "Oh Father", "Dear Jessie", "This Used to Be My Playground", "Bad Girl", "Fever", "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", "You Must Love Me", "Don't Cry for Me Argentina", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", "Drowned World/Substitute for Love", "Nothing Really Matters" and "American Life".

The DVD collection will be released in two different versions, both are double disc releases.

  • DVD Digipak — CD size packaging
