Season five of Supernatural, an American television series, has begun airing on September 10, 2009. This is the fourth season to air on the CW television network. Season five regular cast members include Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins. It has been confirmed that actor Mark Pellegrino will play the role of Lucifer who was freed from hell at the end of Season 4.[1] Paris Hilton has also been signed for an episode to play a demonic creature that takes the form of Paris Hilton.[2] During the 2009 Comic-Con, Eric Kripke revealed that both Jo and her mother Ellen will return in the show's fifth season.[3]. Additionally, hunter Rufus and Chuck the prophet will make an appearance. Season 5 will focus on the mending of Sam and Dean's relationship.

Lucifer's prison has been opened by Sam's successful attempt to kill Lilith. As the gate to Hell fully opens the Winchester brothers are rescued by an unknown force and teleported into a plane, watching in horror the start of the Apocalypse. When they try to figure out what to do next they learn that Castiel has been killed and Dean is in fact Michael's Sword, the human vessel of the Archangel Michael. However, he refuses to provide his mind and body for the angels' plans even when Zachariah threatens to kill Sam and Bobby. Meanwhile, Lucifer is trying to convince his own vessel, a man whose family has been slaughtered by a killer, to let him take over his body so he can face God and seek justice.[4] | |||||||

Sam tells Dean he wants to rejoin Dean in the battle of the Apocalypse, but Dean tells Sam that they are better off apart. Later, Dean awakens five years in the future in an abandoned city and is attacked by humans who have been infected with a demonic virus. Zachariah appears to Dean and explains that this is the world that exists as a result of Dean saying no to helping the angels fight Lucifer. Dean meets up with Future Dean, who tells him that the virus is the Devil's endgame for destroying mankind. | |||||||

Sam and Dean decide to start hunting together again and their first case leads them to a small town whose inhabitants are being killed by famous dead icons like Abraham Lincoln and James Dean’s car.
