Nimbit, inc. [New Ideas for Music Business & Internet Technology] is a Framingham, Massachusetts-based company offering direct-to-fan sales, marketing, and career management solutions for independent artists and music labels through Web-based services. Clients include Tom Rush, Blind Boys of Alabama, Sam Bush, Rounder Records, Bang Camaro, Alan Parsons Project, Brooke White, Steve Songs, Al Kooper, Guster, State Radio, and more.[1]

Products

Nimbit was one of the first companies to recognize and build solutions for independent musicians (indie artists) and independent record labels around the Direct-to-Fan Music Business Model. Direct-to-Fan gives musicians control over their music, fans, business and careers.

Direct-to-Fan Dashboard

Nimbit has a single dashboard to see and manage everything having to do with an artist's music business. This includes sales information, fan information, marketing promotions and results, storefront results, complete central product catalog (e.g., digital and physical music, merch, eTickets), central content management (e.g., band profile and gigs). In this way, products and content are entered once, and everything can be viewed in one, integrated place.

Direct-to-Fan Sales

The Nimbit Sales solution includes Storefronts for Facebook, official band websites, MySpace, blogs, and other places on the web.

In June 2007, Nimbit announced the release of the nimbitOMT[1] (Online Merch Table), a GUI web widget which enables artists to sell compact discs, individual MP3 tracks, complete MP3 albums, or any other merchandise. The OMT also enabled the collection of the email addresses of fans and a show calendar with the ability to sell tickets.[2] OMT users include Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Glen Phillips, and Bonerama.

In February 2008, nimbitSKIN[2] was released as an online storefront that was skinnable and could be custom branded to any website's color scheme. The nimbitSKIN was again aimed at independent artists, giving them their own shopping cart and a complete selection-to-checkout web-store. Notable users of the nimbitSKIN include Tom Rush, Carrie Newcomer, Ellis Paul, and Rounder Records.

In September 2009[3], Nimbit MyStore for Facebook[4] was released to take full advantage of all the social networking capabilities of Facebook, giving artists completely integrated fan marketing, promotion, and direct selling capabilities. Artists can sell both digital and physical products, including digital music (singles, albums), physical music (CDs, DVDs, Vinyl), merchandise (T-shirts, posters, autographed items, etc.), download cards, eTickets, and custom packages based on fan buying behaviors -- and do so from the artist’s Facebook pages (Fan Page or Personal Profile). Fans never leave the artists Facebook page to purchase an item, enabling artists to own the buying relationship, maintain knowledge of what each fan buys, and retaining more of the profits.

Direct-to-Fan Marketing

The Nimbit Marketing solution includes fan capture, email marketing, fan messaging, and fan management. Nimbit's marketing products focus on helping musicians know their fans, engage their fans and offer them appropriate products, and tools to help them build loyalty & brand around the artist.[5]

Music Business Platform

Managed through Nimbit's Dashboard, artists can view marketing and sales analytics, manage central content product catalogs, and coordinate with the team that supports them in building their brand and business

Download Cards

Nimbit manufactures and processes Download Cards [6], which can be either sold or used for fan identification and marketing programs. Download cards are redeemable at artists' storefronts.

eTickets

Artists can sell Tickets to their shows from any of their Nimbit storefronts. The event/show/gig information is entered once through the Nimbit Dashboard with whether you are selling tickets to that show, and then the etickets are automatically available on all Storefronts.

Services

Nimbit offers Label services including digital distribution to iTunes, Amazon, and other retail sites, CD and DVD manufacturing, custom merch, print services, graphic design and web services, warehousing and fullfilment, backend ecommerce and payment processing.

Digital Distribution

Nimbit offers digital distribution to third party retailers such as iTunes, Amazon,eMusic, Rhapsody, GroupieTunes, Groove Mobile, and CDFreedom.com. Differing from the typical surcharges of digital distribution, nimbit passes 100% of third party royalties onto the artists and charges the same to distribute to one or all of the retailers.

Partnerships

ASCAP and Nimbit have partnered since 2004 to offer "ASCAP Web Tools" for ASCAP members. These tools included web hosting, design, and email marketing tools as well as widgets to implement on the artist's site. nimbit has also partnered with Amie Street and other music companies and festivals.[3]
