The Colt Lightning Carbine was a rifle manufactured by Colt from 1884 to 1904 and was chambered in the .44-40 caliber. Its profile somewhat resembles the slide-action rimfire rifles made by Winchester. The Lightning Carbine saw use with the US Forces/Law Enforcement and various British Empire Military units in India. Lightning model rifles are still manufactured today by other companies for hunting and competition purposes in calibers such as .38 Special/.357 Magnum, .44 Special/.44 Magnum, 44-40, and 45 Colt.
