Western Plains Zoo is a large zoo near Dubbo New South Wales. It was established in the late 1970's by Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney to provide more living and breeding space for large animals such as elephants and various antelopes which needed more space than was available at the restricted Sydney site. Western Plains Zoo is located near the Newell Highway in west Dubbo about 4 km from downtown. It is accessible by planes, trains and automobiles. It has many large animals.
