Lucida Grande is a font available on the Mac OS X operating system.

Like the similar Microsoft Windows font Lucida Sans Unicode, it supports the most commonly used characters defined in version 2.0 of the Unicode standard. This font also looks similar to Myriad.

Lucida Grande is rumored to be the base font for Microsoft's upcoming operating system Windows Vista.

Differences between Myriad and Lucida Grande

The main differences between Myriad and Lucida Grande are:

  • The Arabic numeral 1 has a base in Lucida Grande, and Myriad has no base on the numeral 1
  • The dots on lowercase i's and j's are square in Lucida Grande, and round in Myriad
  • The bar on the dollar sign ($) and cent sign (¢) runs through the symbol in Lucida Grande
  • The asterisk is five-sided in Lucida Grande, and six-sided in Myriad
  • The uppercase J goes below the baseline in Lucida Grande
  • The comma in Lucida Grande looks like a single closing quotation mark, while it looks like a diagonal line in Myriad
  • The lowercase "a" in Lucida Grande has a tail at the bottom right corner, while the lowercase "a" in Myriad has no tail
