Wilkes University is a private, non-denominational university located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA, and is home to 1,633 undergraduates and 403 graduates. It was founded in 1933 by Bucknell University, as a two-year junior college. Wilkes became independent of Bucknell in 1940 as Wilkes College, and was promoted to university status in 1990.

Wilkes is academically split into two schools: the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the College of Science and Engineering. It is also home to the Abraham Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the Jay Sidhu School of Business.

The university has several student-run media outlets under the auspices of the Division of Communications, including a newspaper, television and radio station, and public relations agency.

The Wilkes University Colonels compete in NCAA Division III athletics, and is a member of the Middle Atlantic Corporation. Wilkes has 14 different intercollegiate athletic teams.
