Plankton and Karen
- For information on real plankton, see: Plankton.
Sheldon J. Plankton (usually referred to as Plankton) is a fictional character and one eyed villain in the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. He is a technologically savvy, deep-voiced zooplankton with one central eye—a real-life characteristic of some copepods. Plankton is the smallest of the main characters in the series, able to fit in SpongeBob SquarePants's hand, as well as under Mr. Krabs's foot, as he is only slightly larger than a jelly bean. Plankton is voiced by Doug Lawrence.
Plankton is Mr. Krabs's tiny little green one-eyed business rival, he is ironically a plankton, and runs a competing restaurant called The Chum Bucket, where rarely anyone eats, directly across the street from the Krusty Krab. He used to not get any customers at all, recently due to changed opening hours, he has gotten a substantial ammount. He is Mr. Krab's arch enemy, and is SpongeBob's occasional nemesis, though many times SpongeBob is naive of Plankton's evil powers. He once sang the "FUN song", with SpongeBob and made up his own Plankton-esque words to it. In the same episode, he imagined himself riding a flying jellyfish and destroying Bikini Bottom with zap plasma rays. Plankton is a science wiz, and even knows how to induce thermonuclear fusion. His main catch phrases seem to be "I WIN! I WIN!", or "You're all mine you sweet Krabby Patty!", "I wish to rule you!", or simply "Hehhehehaaa!!". Plankton is well known for these catch phrases, among a few others. Plankton's desire is to put Mr. Krabs out of business, and infiltrate the Krusty Krab, all of them nearly successful failed plans of which involve getting a hold of the secret recipe for the copyrighted Crabby Patty, the main food item served at the Krusty Krab, in order to get customors. Plankton frequently plays on the naive trusting nature of SpongeBob to try and get the recipe, along with engaging in various forms of trickery or theft to get either a Crabby Patty or the recipe. These forms have ranged from posing as a psychiatrist for SpongeBob to use of a self-controlled robot version of Mr. Krabs. Plankton is always scheming away in his laboratory. In the episode, "The Algae's Always Greener", Plankton once switched lives with Mr. Krabs for a day, and found he preferred being himself and living with his computer wife. Most of the time it is his own evil desire to steal the secret Krabby Patty formula that causes his plans to fail, such as in the episode "Plankton!", in which his lust over a crabby patty tossed him into his own ingrediant analyzing machine.
Plankton lives at the Chum Bucket with Karen, his dear computer "wife", who irritates him to no end. Personality wise, Plankton speaks in a deep, melodramatic voice, and enjoys pursuing various forms of villainy, such as crabby patty theft and trying to possess sponges by getting inside their brains. Plankton not only wants to be the king of fast food, he wants to be supreme commander of the world. Like other Nicktoon villains, he always uses disguises. He disguises himself as a giant sea cucumber, Mr. Krabs, Patrick, and even as a robot who sounds like he comes from the "No Weenies Allowed" episode. He is a near-perfect asset to the show, and has his own following among the fans. As disclosed in the episode "Plankton's Army", Plankton's first name is Sheldon, which amused Karen to no end. In the same episode, it was also revealed that Plankton has been trying to discover Mr. Krabs' secret formula for the past 25 years.
Template:Spoiler In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Plankton executes "Evil Plan Z," wherein he steals the crown of King Neptune, delivers it to Shell City (an aquatic-themed gift shop located on the surface), and frames the theft on Mr. Krabs, whom Neptune freezes. While Krabs is frozen, Plankton successfully steals the Krabby Patty formula and begins producing Krabby Patties, giving free bucket helmets away with each one. The helmets are, in fact, mind-control devices which Plankton uses to make the citizens bend to his will and change Bikini Bottom to suit his image, renaming the city "Planktopolis." Unfortunately for Plankton, SpongeBob and Patrick manage to retrieve the crown and bring it back to Neptune. Plankton is soon arrested and taken away by the authorities, but vows to return and destroy everyone.
Plankton's Relatives
Plankton has thousands of relatives, whom he enlists help from in one episode while attempting to retrieve the Krabby Patty secret formula. Relatives include (but are not limited to): Billy Jim, Billy Bob Banana Pho Philly, Bleegness, and Guss. His relatives quite strangely enough already, seem to be a big bunch of friendly gullible multicolored root-beer crazed uneducated hillbilly plankton, whom Plankton himself barely even recognizes. Where Plankton got his ingenious mind is currently unknown.
His Date with Mama Krabs
Plankton once dated Mr. Krab's mother, after hearing endless complaints from his computer wife, as part of a plot to get the formula. He tries to capture Mama Krabs with a giant robot, but later on his plan backfires, when she falls in love with the bionic plankton, instead of the real Plankton.
Mr. Krabs and Plankton
Mr. Krabs and Plankton were once college room-mates, then it evolved slowly into a rivalry, and eventually over their two competing resturaunts. The whole rivalry story goes like this: Plankton views Mr. Krabs as greedy (which he is), Mr. Krabs views Plankton as a thief (which he is).
In the Angelica Pickles-themed Christmas commercial, How the You-Know-Who Stole You-Know-What!, based on How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Plankton, as Little Plankton Lou Who and voiced by Doug Lawrence, wakes up from his bed, yawns, clears his throats, and shouts "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!". A few seconds later, Anglecia patted Plankton on his head and kicked him back into bed.
