Turkish new lira and Turkish lira

Turkish new lira looks like it is ready to be merged into Turkish lira. Will someone knowledgeable please take a look and decide? --Zlerman (talk) 16:43, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

genocide claims by the Greeks

I have only seen for the first time the article Greek genocide. Can somebody please tell me if this is actually recognised? and if not we might as well make a Turkish genocide article! Honestly wikipedia should be named genocideipedia due to all the claims by Greeks and Armenians towards the Turkish people. Justinz84 (talk) 16:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I take it you haven't seen the Kurdish genocide (WWI) and Assyrian Genocide articles. It's hard to keep track these days... --Adoniscik(t, c) 16:08, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Request for translation for Mustafa Güngör article

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for this but if any member of the project could have a quick look at something for me, that would be great. I've just started an article on Mustafa Güngör, a German rugby union player of, obviously, Turkish decend. In the external links, there is a link to a short Turkish article but I don't speak Turkish. Can somebody please have a read and pass on any information it may give that isn't already in the article? Thank you for any assistance, EA210269 (talk) 01:53, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Suggested redirect

I would like to know what everyone in the Turkish WikiProject thinks of redirecting Foundation of the Ottoman Empire to Rise of the Ottoman Empire. The former is not very well written and does not give information which cannot be provided elsewhere. The latter refers to the earliest period in the history of the Ottoman Empire, and ideally will encompass much of Osman I's conquests (the other, more trivial information will remain in the Osman I article) once it is expanded further. Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:50, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

WWII Ambassador to Romania

Merhaba arkadaşlar. I'm researching subjects related to the Holocaust in Romania, and came across info on the Turkish Ambassador to Romania, who attempted to rescue local Jews during the war years (probably between 1941 and 1943, 1944 at the latest). The main source I used did not mention his name, but I tried to look it up elsewhere, and it should be something like Selbarty Istinyell or Sefbarty Istinyell (one has got to be a misspelling, and I apologize for not knowing if this is the right name order). I don't have any other reference around for the facts, let alone access to Turkish printed sources (not that I would understand much of them either way). What I'm looking for, at least at this stage, is a correct and standard version of the name - to redlink him in one article; obviously, if this can lead you guys to start an article on him, it's all good. Thanks. Dahn (talk) 08:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello? Dahn (talk) 13:57, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
There was an ambassador Şefkati İstinyeli, but he doesn't fit the time frame (11/1944-1947 according to the Turkish Embassy in Romania). However one website suggests he was for some time the deputy of the previous ambassador, tr:Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver (who was in Romania between 1931 and 12/1944), but no date is given. As for an article about him, very dim chances, he was just a career diplomat.Baltaci (talk) 01:52, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow, thanks. I guess I'll just change the text to "Turkish diplomats", pending more info. Dahn (talk) 13:06, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Turkish comics help

Hi, just dropping in to see if anyone here can help. We have a number of new comics articles that have largely Turkish sources:

As can been seen the articles are currently weak but it may be they are notable enough for inclusion - there is just not much of a way for those who don't know Turkish to tell one way or the other and I'd hate to see articles deleted if the main problem is a language barrier (there has already been one speedy deletion attempt). Some, like Minus Eighty and Rodeo Strip do seem to have been covered in leading newspapers and magazines but my Turkish is minimal and I was wondering if there was anyone around who knew the topic and was interested in checking to make sure there is good coverage and perhaps making the links footnotes to support statements in the articles. Also if you know of any more sources then feel free to throw them in.

You might also want to look this over: Altyazi.

Also if anyone is knowledgeable and enthusiastic then don't be shy about pitching in to the area of Turkish comics (including newspaper comic strips) as the coverage isn't currently that good and the only reasonable articles are on comics artists who get work in the US industry, which seems a pity. Top level category is: Category:Turkish comics.

Thanks for any help you can provide. (Emperor (talk) 15:58, 3 April 2009 (UTC))

Turks in Moena

Hey everyone! As many of you have realised I contribute mainly towards articles of the Turkish diaspora. As I have been researching Turks in Italy I have found that there is apparently a Turkish village in Italy with Turkish inhabitancies for over 350 years. I never knew of this and obviously the figures for Turks in Italy are therefore only including present immigrants. Anyway, I was hoping that there are some of you who know more about the Turks living in Moena. So far I have only been able to find pictures of an annual Ottoman parade in the village however I haven’t found much else. If anybody has any information please let me know because it would be an extremely interesting article to create! Turco85 (Talk) 13:31, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Turkish Airlines Flight 1476 GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed Turkish Airlines Flight 1476 for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Since the article falls under the scope of this project, I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Please comment there to help the article maintain its GA status. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Cumhuriyet newspaper and its politics

Hello, WPTurkey editors. An IP-user made changes to Piglet (Winnie-the-Pooh)[1] and Cumhuriyet[2] to indicate that the Cumhuriyet newspaper is "Centre-Right" in its politics, as opposed to "Centre-Left". I don't know which is true; I hope one of you might. Thanks. Powers T 14:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

This article seems to have shrunk in half, and been renamed, over the Summer, with mention of the "Basilic" cannon totally excised. Could someone have a look over it? It apparently was the target of an edit war. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 09:47, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Cesme Song Contest implies notability?

Perhaps you guys could help with this. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexandra Jacovidou. Alexandra Jacovidou is a Greece/Swedish singer who participated in Cesme Song Contest in Cesme this year. Some editors claim that this means she is notable. One Swedish article said Cesme Song Contest has 60 million viewers, but can this be true? Is it shown on a national TV channel or in other countries? --My immmortal (talk) 12:06, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
