Requesting a Biography: Before placing a request for a biography, make certain that the person meets the notability requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia (see notability criteria). Why do you want to know about them? Why would anyone else want to know about them? Also, if you are requesting an article on a living person, please see Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people and neutral point of view.

To make a new request, add the person's name under their profession or nation (or in both categories). Place it in alphabetical order by the person's last name. If an appropriate nation or professional category is not listed, then one should be created -- or the requested name can be added to the uncategorized listings at the bottom of this page.

Information to include:

  1. Name - be certain of the spelling
  2. Date requested - so that older requests can be more easily tracked.
  3. Identifying information -- There are lots of James Smiths in the world; which one are you asking about -- the Scottish architect, the American rapper, or who?
  4. Notability -- if it isn't already obvious from the identifying information, describe precisely what makes them notable. Be concise.
  5. Reference -- add a link to a reference which identifies the person and/or highlights their notability

example:

  • Jeremiah V. Anonymouse - (req 2008-06-23) Canadian astronaut, first person to live on Mars, wrote bestseller Hey, Where is Everybody?. see bio

IMPORTANT NOTE
  • Any requested name which fails to include identifying information or notability will be moved to the "No Notability or Questionable Notability" category, and subsequently deleted.

Ambassadors

Civil Rights Figures/Activists

  • José Andrés Tamayo Cortez - Known as Father Tamayo, or Padre Tamayo, he is a moral and spiritual leader of the Honduran resistance movement against the coup. He is a winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize for his two decades of work fighting non-violently against illegal logging and mining in Olancho province, the location of his Catholic parish (he is a Franciscan priest). Prior to the coup, Andrés Tamayo was most famous for organizing large marches from rural Olancho to the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. Some of the more recent marches earned him a meeting with President Manuel Zelaya, with whom he began a productive dialogue (to his surprise, Zelaya being a timber magnate). Since the coup d'etat of June 28, 2009, Tamayo has been a declared enemy of the state: his security (once provided at his request by the government, protecting him from constant harassment and assassination attempts by wealthy interests) was compromised, his parish was taken away from him, his citizenship was stripped (he is a naturalized Honduran born in El Salvador), and he was forced into hiding. He is presently holed up inside the Brazilian embassy with Zelaya. His name has become a rallying cry for members of the resistance, and many credit his constant calls for non-violence with keeping the resistance peaceful. He is very well known in Honduras. (URGENTLY REQUESTED 10-11-09)

These entries may be given time to explain why this person is notable. All names without credible claims to notability will be deleted. NOTE: Any entry which violates Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons criteria or constitutes an attack should be deleted immediately .

My idea is not for a specific person, but rather an organized effort to expand many of the existing bios. An interesting sidelight to bios is that many important people appear on postage stamps (and currency, but that's another matter) and there are literally tens of thousands of stamps world-wide that do so. I am suggesting a project to include stamp images with the appropriate bios. Perhaps someone more technical than I can build a database for these images and/or suggest the most efficient way to do this. I think this would be an exciting project not just for stamp collectors, but for history buffs and art/design people and specialists in many other areas (ex. Broadcast Technology Research). If you think this idea has a chance, or you object to it, I am Stampczar.
