Philip W. Schiller (born 1960) is the senior vice president of worldwide product marketing at Apple Inc.[1] He is a prominent figure in Apple's public presentations. He services Apple CEO Steve Jobs and has been a member of the company's executive leadership team since Jobs's return to Apple in 1997.

Early life

Schiller received a Bachelor's in Biology from Boston College in 1982. He began, but didn't complete, a Ph.D in English.

Career

Schiller has over twenty four years of experience in product marketing and management, including seventeen[1] years at Apple in various capacities. His previous experience also included positions at Macromedia (Vice President of Product Marketing), FirePower Systems, Inc. (Director of Product Marketing), Nolan, Norton & Company and Massachusetts General Hospital (Programmer and Systems Analyst).

At Apple, Schiller was instrumental in the formation and marketing of iMac, iBook, PowerBook G4, iPod, Mac OS X, and subsequent products.

Schiller frequently participates in a supporting role in keynote presentations given by Steve Jobs, usually presenting new products. During Steve Jobs's medical leave of absence, he presented numerous keynote presentations himself (with supporting segments by other Apple staff), including Apple's last appearance at IDG's Macworld trade show on January 6th, 2009 and the WWDC keynote on June 8th, 2009. Both presentations, held in San Francisco, were typically presented by Jobs himself. Among the things announced at these events were the updated MacBook Pro lines, the new iPhone 3GS, new versions of the iLife and iWork suites as well as pricing and DRM changes to the iTunes Music Store.

"Lemming" Controversy

Schiller has recently been in the news quite a bit for his alleged comment at the Macworld Expo 2009 saying that, "All Windows users are simply lemmings." This has further tarnished the already tenuous relationship between Microsoft and Apple and has led Schiller to be officially reprimanded. Apple has denied the allegations, which has increased the recent attention to the company. This event overshadowed the recent evolution of their product line and the release of the mighty mouse.
