Your Ex-Lover Is Dead was the sixth single put out by the Canadian indie pop group Stars. It was offered as the Free Single of the Week[when?] on the online music store iTunes.

It is the first track on the album, Set Yourself on Fire. The track opens with the voice of lead singer Torquil's father Douglas Campbell saying, "When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire."

The song was featured on the Season 5 finale of the popular Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. This track is also featured on the album Music from the OC: Mix 5.

The song was listed as the 298th best song of the 2000's by pitchfork media.

It is about two former lovers meeting up one day ("God that was strange to see you again") and reminiscing about their relationship, which ended badly ("You see all the beauty repent all your sin"). However, they decide they don't regret it ("I'm not sorry I met you/I'm not sorry it's over/I'm not sorry there's nothing to save").

Music video

The music video for this single features the band lying on their backs, playing their instruments, while on ice outdoors. The video is reminiscent of scenes from the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
