Gandhi Nagar(erstwhile Jalihal Camp) is one of the largest village[1] in Karnataka state in terms of area,population,property,agricultural produdtion & revenue. This is the first Govt. Recognized revenue village in Tungabhadra Delta Region (i.e Bellary, Raichur & Koppal districts) on May 17,1997. From May 17,1997 onwards this village name is changed to Gandhi Nagar from Jalihal Camp. Gandhi Nagar(R) is located on either sides of Tungabhadra left Bank Canal,#36.In this village you will find lots of Paddy Fields which are highly fertile & higher yielding type. Paddy [2] is the main agricultural crop in the Tungabhadra Delta Region & the paddy varieties grown here are Sonamasuri,emergency,NelloreSona,JJL,RS22 & some nice rice varieties.

The paddy [3] grown here were mainly exported to Bangalore, Chennai, Maharashtra & Middle-East countries. The paddy cultivation is done by using modern agricultural equipments like Tractors, Paddy Harvesters, Pesticide Sprayers etc. & in this village each and every farmer will be having a Tractor. In this village you will also find large masses of Telugu Speaking People who are migrated from West Godhavari District of Andhra Pradesh during 1960-1970's for cultivating Agriculture in Tungabhadra Delta Region. Migrated peoples are real hard workers who transformed uncultivated lands into fertile lands for growing crops. These peoples are mainly of Kamma Community and their primary occupation is agriculture.

Gandhi Nagar(R) has lot of temples to visit and among these "Lord Shiva Temple"[4] is a must visit temple because of its architectural design.This is one of the finest temples you will find in Tungabhadra Delta region.This Great Temple is built from funds donated by people from Gandhi Nagar & neighboring villages & towns. Telugu Film Actors Muralimohan,Srikanth & Aahuthi Prasad are also contributed funds for building this "Great Shivalayam"[5] Temple. The great persons who involved in all activities for successful construction of Temple are the great Veerampalam Siddantha Swamji & Maddhipati Gangadhar Rao of Gandhi Nagar(R). To Build this "Great Shivalayam"[6] Temple it costed around 100 Million Rs(10Crore). Every weekend thousands of people from other places will visit this temple[7].

Gandhi Nagar(R) is located at 15°41′49″N 76°39′53″E / 15.69694°N 76.66472°E / 15.69694; 76.66472.[2] It is on banks of Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal,#36 and nearest town is Sindhanur around 12 km. Its Taluk headquarters is Sindhanur & District headquarters is Raichur.
