Gio Ponti (Bay Colt. Foaled Feb 28, 2005 in Kentucky) is a United States Champion Race Horse and Specialist on the the Truf Course. He was sired by Tale of the Cat a son of Storm Cat out of the stakes-placed Alydar mare Chipeta Springs making him half-brother to stakes-winner Fisher Pond. The Bay colt is owned by Castleton Lyons and his trainer is Christophe Clement.
Racing Career
Gio Ponti began racing slowly as a two year old, he won but one stake race the Bourbon Stakes , After an unplaced effort in the Breeders cup Juvinile Turf, He matured enough in his three year old season, winning the Hill Prince Stakes (2008), the Sir Beaufort Stakes and the Virginia Derby taking home $450,000 for his win. The Bay colt dominated his four year old campagne winning four consective Grade One races, Manhattan Handicap, Frank E. Kilroe Mile Handicap, Man o' War Stakes,and the Arlington Million, thus making him current favorite for the Breeders Cup Turf this November. However Gio Ponti was Beaten in the Santa Anita Oak Tree Meet in October, and there is speculations that the Turf Ace Gio Ponti aims for Breeders Cup Classic.
