Beta Upsilon Chi (Brothers Under Christ or ΒΥΧ) is a Christian fraternity organized to establish brotherhood and unity among college men based on the common bond of Jesus Christ. BYX was founded at University of Texas in 1985 by a group of men who felt the need for an alternative to the current fraternity scene. BYX seeks to edify college men through Bible study, fellowship, outreach, and other events.
Since its founding in 1985, BYX has spread to 16 different campuses across the United States.
Organization
At the national level, BYX is headed by a Board of Directors. This board is the ultimate authority and is responsible for the guidance of the fraternity. In conjunction with the Executive Director, they approve any charter changes.
Also at the national level is the BYX Executive Director and any staff he may have. The Executive Director is responsible for the day to day operation of the national fraternity and frequently visits each chapter.
Each chapter is responsible for electing chapter officers. These officers typically include: president, vice-president, treasurer, chaplain, secretary, and pledge trainer. These officers are responsible for running the chapter in all its various aspects: meetings, trips, pledging, parties, etc. These officers serve one year terms, and only may be re-elected once to a different office.
Each chaper is composed of members and pledges. Members have voting rights within the chapter and become alumni when they graduate. Pledges become members by finishing the pledging process, a process that differs from chapter to chapter.
