Intelsat 14 is a communications satellite owned by Intelsat planned to be located at 45° W longitude, serving the Americas market. Intelsat 14 is intended to replace Intelsat 1R which is nearing the end of its design life. It was built by Space Systems Loral, as part of its LS-1300 line.
The clients for Intelsat 14 are expected to include the current clients for Intelsat 1R.
It carries the IRIS (Internet Router in Space) demonstration.[1]
Launch
Intelsat 14 was launched November 23, 2009 using an Atlas V rocket flying in the 431 configuration. The satellite was released into a geosynchronous transfer orbit 1 hour and 58 minutes after lift-off.[2]
