Elora Danan (band)
Elora Danan |
---|
Elora Danan were an Australian alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in late 2006 from various other bands in the local scene who had ended including As A Weapon and Alleged. The band split up in 2009.
History
After recording their first demos in late 2006 the band signed to Boomtown Records making their debut release We all Have Secrets in mid 2007.[1] The release was fashioned as a mini album, with all the songs written being based on movies.
In mid 2008 the band recorded their first studio album entitled In The Room Up There. The album was released 6 March, 2009 and was produced by Adam Sparks (Birds of Tokyo).[2] Around that time of this recording the band became a six-piece with the addition of guitarist, Tim Marley. The recording was finished in August, 2008 but there was an eight month delay in its release.
The label didn't want to put anything out between October and February because they are so business minded, and that is when the big internationals are doing their Christmas releases and they didn't want to compete. To us it was, like, instead of looking at it as competition, our music is written now and relevant now to us. The waiting was bad but I guess it made the release more exciting.
— George Green, 2009[2]
Given the delays in the release of the album, Elora Danan have decided not to further the relationship with Boomtown Records.
We won't be releasing on Boomtown again, but they don't know that yet. A record label does not exist without bands, so they need to treat their bands well.
— George Green, 2009[2]
The band have played many shows with big bands in their short time of formation including local favorites and international bands including The Getaway Plan, In Fiction, Behind Crimson Eyes, Unwritten Law, Sprung Monkey, New Found Glory and Saosin.[3][4] The band also played on the local spot at the Soundwave Festival in 2009 playing with Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Bloodhound Gang, The Subways and Underoath.
Breakup
On Friday, May 29 2009 Elora Danan announced on there MySpace page that they will be disbanding. An official statement was released on there blog:
"To everyone who has ever heard our band.
This is probably very unexpected for you all, and as hard as it would be to digest it is even harder to write. But, we have come to a decision that Elora Danan will no longer be making music together.
We all know how this is coming across, especially in the wake of The Getaway Plan's break up but we can all assure you that this is for real. The reason we are letting you all know now is that this will be the last time we play the East Coast and we want you all to know and be a part of it.
We've accomplished more in three years than we could've ever imagined, and we are glad that we were given the opportunity to create music for so many people.
So, most importantly we'd all like to say thank you to anyone who's ever come out to a show, bought a CD or said hey. It's thanks to you all that we were able to make it this far... further than we'd ever thought.
Love GGIKTMJRRSMT”[5]
