Cycle three of Australia's Next Top Model premiered on 27 March 2007 and concluded on 5 June 2007. As with the first two cycles, the third season was broadcast exclusively on the Foxtel network FOX8 in Australia. Alice Burdeu was declared the winner with Stephanie Hart being the runner-up.
Erika Heynatz, the previous host for the first two cycles did not return as host of cycle 3, with Jodhi Meares, former model and designer of swimsuit collection Tigerlily, taking on the hosting role.[1]
The judging panel saw the return of fashion designer and model booker, Alex Perry for his third season. As well as international photographer Jez Smith, and ex-model and TV personality Charlotte Dawson replacing fashion photographer Georges Antoni and fashion producer Victoria Fisher.
The show went under a number of changes with the introduction of a fan favourite voting system. Shortly after a new episode aired, Foxtel users were able to cast their vote via the Red Button or SMS for who they thought was "Australia's Favourite Top Model", in which Jordan Loukas was announced the winner of during the finale, which was broadcast live for the first time in the series, whereas in previous cycles the finale would be filmed at an isolated location and the winner revealed later on TV.[2]
Furthermore, for the first time for Top Model franchise, viewers were able to have a say in who won the overall prize of "Australia's Next Top Model" by phoning in or using SMS to vote for either Alice or Stephanie H. during the lead-up week to the finale. The viewers vote counted for 15% of the total vote to determine the winner while the other 85% was determined from eight judges including representatives from Australian Vogue, Priscilla's Modeling Agency and Napoleon Perdis Make-Up Academy.[3]
Also, the minimum age required for participation was lowered to 16 years old starting this cycle.

The next day, the girls are then treated to a "fun day", which is actually their challenge, They have meals and go surfing, while a photographer is shooting them. Danica considers overweight of her nutritional habits while Alice is suspicious from the start, but when a swarm of paparazzi photograph the girls, they realize it was part of the show. Back at the model house, Charlotte meets them to show the girls the photos taken throughout the day, including Steph getting changed and several embarrassing shots of Danica. The challenge winner is Anika who won a AU$1000 front row seat in Mundine-Soliman boxing match. She chose Alice to share the prize, which included drinks with Jodhi and Sydney Swans captain Barry Hall and Australian rules football player Adam Schneider. The other girls are also to go, but had seats further up in the stands. They see celebrities like Russell Crowe and also seeing their promo commercial.

Acting & Presenting
Original Airdate: 22 May 2007
The four remaining girls are given an acting lesson by Paul Goddard, who taught them various lessons about emotion and acting. Jonathan continues coaching the girls’ illustrating them how to present themselves. They had to convince others that they were Australia’s Next Top Model and hold up a conversation with “Marc Jacobs” (Jonathan) at a pretend cocktail party.
The girls had to meet top fashion experts and had to talk about themselves in less than a minute, essentially a speed go-see. They meet Sara Mulcahy, editor of Sunday Magazine, Inez Garcia, fashion director of Sunday Magazine, Grant Pearce, publisher of Vogue Australia, and Bruno Schiavari, leading Australia fashion designer. Alice was shy, trying to ask the editors about them more than telling about herself; Steph H managed to ramble on with interjections of “like” everywhere”; Anika kept the dialogue going in a friendly manner but was somewhat nervous; Jordan couldn't muster enough conversation between the fashion experts, especially with Inez Garcia where most of the minute was spent in silence.
Ultimately, the four fashion experts awarded the prize, Steph H and Anika have a photoshoot with Sunday Magazine. Jordan and Alice were punished by working out in the pool with trainer, and Jordan struggled as usual.
The photo shoot of the week was for Bonds Men's Underwear with Ian Thorpe as the client. The models got assigned to an emotion in a boyfriend scenario with a male model. Anika struggled with "contentment", whilst others all excelled in nailing the emotion for the photo shoot.
Model | Emotion |
---|---|
Alice | Anger |
Anika | Contentment |
Jordan | Suspicion |
Steph H | Truth |
In the judging challenge, the girls had to convey emotions with another male actor James Mitchell, and change their expression immediately when the judges called out an emotion. Alice excelled, to the judges’ surprise, while Anika was less than convincing. She and Jordan stepped in bottom two for their second time in a row. Anika was sent home for a poor performance during the week.

Los Angeles
Original Airdate: 29 May 2007
The three remaining girls are finally told they were heading off to Los Angeles, and there will be no lessons, only challenges. They had three main challenges. Once they were off the plane, they were sent to LA's Napoleon Perdis store to act as live mannequins. They are dressed by stylist Mandi Line.
At first the girls disappoint Napoleon and Mandi, however after being criticised halfway through, they pick up their game, attracting crowds of passersby, even stopping traffic. In the end both Napoleon and Mandi were impressed with all the girls and found it hard to choose a favourite.
The next day, Jodhi came to tell the girls that they had go-sees with LA's 2 top model agencies, Nous Models and LA Models. First they met Kenya Knight from Nous Models, who Jordan thought was "nice". Next they went to LA Models' Crista Klayman, who seemed to take account of their presence and walk. Alice seemed to the agents as too high fashion and tall for L.A., and stated she could only work in cities such as Paris or Milan. Steph was criticized for her hip measurements by Kenya, but made it up with her portfolio. Jordan got a good response because she was described by Kenya and Krista as perfect for the L.A. market. Later that day, they had a series of three go-sees to some LA designers. Ashley Paige booked Jordan for a show and Dom Deluca stated that the America's Next Top Model girls were "Mall Rats" compared to the Australian girls.
The following day, they were off to their first international photo shoot where Napoleon Perdis greeted and showed them around his beautiful Hollywood hills house. Napoleon introduced them to Darren Tieste, their photographer, and Charlie Altuna, their stylist. Charlie briefed them on the theme of the day's photo shoot, which was Modern Hollywood glamour, with clothes straight off the catwalk of international labels with the likes of Gucci and Chanel.
During their hair and makeup session, Napoleon asked Jordan about who she thinks should go home. Alice, being nearby, gradually builds up anger from the remarks. Steph H. also adds her opinion about Alice and who should go home, and it escalates into a verbal fight for the final Top Model position as Alice retaliates and defends herself stating that Jordan wasn't competition and Steph H. was dumb because she says stupid things and she didn't know if Chile was a country or not. During the photo shoot, Jordan was reminded to be careful in some of her poses, Steph H being told she looked like a "sex kitten" and relied on established looks while Alice excelled. Charlie strongly favored Alice, except commenting she would be more suitable in Paris or New York markets.
The next day, the three models were flown back to Australia for their judging panel. All the judges were impressed by the photos, especially Alice's and Jordan's. Alex Perry especially liked the way the pose elongates Jordan's body length. Their judging challenge was the question "Why should you be Australia's Next Top Model?"
During deliberation, the judges felt torn between the unique contrasting styles of the three models in front of them. They felt that Alice excelled in the photo and the collected, calm, thoughtful speech she gave won her impression points. The judges agreed that Jordan's photo is her strongest in the competition, but judges felt that the hair and outfit didn't do justice to Steph H. Alice was chosen first for the final two. After a hard deliberation the judges finally decided to keep Steph, and Jordan was eliminated. For one more final twist, it is revealed that viewer votes will be combined with the judges scores to decide Australia's Next Top Model.

Original Airdate: 5 June 2007
The show began with the girls going to auditions for Australia's fashion week, the Alex Perry and Fashion Assassin shows. The first go-see was at Fashion Assassin, where both the girls got the job. They next went to Alex Perry and were both chosen again although there were questions about Steph's height and age for the shoot. At the Alex Perry show Alice excelled but Steph had a harder time due to a broken shoe. At the Fashion Assassin show Steph excelled and even Alice pulled through as Alex said bringing experience to the cheap. Then, the live show began. Alex and Jez had a fight over the issue of Steph's height and age for the catwalk of haute couture in Europe and in Australia.
Then, the introduced the original line-up of girls, interviewed them for a while and after that introduced all the eliminated contestants, except Kara, but they were joined by Jaimi. They were all asked who they thought should win and the majority said Steph. Then they took a look at some clips of the tantrums and drama in the house. They took one last look at the girls' modeling portfolios then asked Napoleon Perdis, Priscilla and Kirstie Clements to cast their votes, and all three said Alice. Jonathon, Jez & Jodhi all gave their votes to Steph and Alex & Charlotte gave theirs to Alice.
The two girls then had to summarize why they thought they should win, Steph burst into tears. Jodhi announced that the judges' votes and the viewers' votes will be added together and the winner would appear upon the screen. After a moment Alice's picture appeared upon the screen as Australia's Next Top Model.
