Template:Infobox NPP Kaiga is a nuclear power station situated at Kaiga in Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka, India. The plant has been in operation since March 2000 and is operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India.

It has four units with one still under construction. The two oldest units comprise the west half of the site and the two newer units are adjoining the east side of the site. All of the four are small-sized Candu plants of 220 MW.

Controversies

During Kaiga's construction one of the lead walls collapsed and created a safety concern.

In November 2009, more than 50 employees of the plant were affected due to high radiation levels. A water cooler for supplying water for the employees was contaminated with tritiated water. On further investigation, the leak could have been a caused by an act of sabotage.[1]. Anti-nuclear_movement activists claim that the government is trying to downplay the severity of the incident [2]
