Takht Singh
Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Takhtsinhji Karansinhji Sahib Bahadur, better known under his later style Shri Takht Singh was first the regent (1839-1841) and the final Maharaja of Ahmednagar 1841-1843 and then, once he ceded Ahmednagar to Idar, was recognised as Maharaja of Jodhpur (1843-1873).
He was born in Ahmednagar in 6 June 1819 as the second son of Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Karansinhji Sagramsinhji Sahib Bahadur, the Maharaja of Ahmednagar from 1798 to 1835. He had little prospects of ascending the throne, yet after the death of his brother, Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Prithisinhji Karansinhji in 1839 he became the regent over the whole state and was this until the birth of his brothers son, Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Balwantsinhji Prithisinhji, who was proclaimed ruler at his birth. Takhtsinhji then became the new ruler's regent and served as such until the death of his nephew on 23 September 1841, when he became the Maharaja of Ahmadnagar.
However, two years into his reign in 1843, Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Man Singh, the Maharaja of Jodhpur died. He was persuaded by his widows to take the succession (he was a member of the Rathor dynasty through his grandfather, Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sagramsinhji, the son of Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sagramsinhji, a Maharaja of Idar, who himself was the son of Shri Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Anandsinhji, the first Maharaja of Idar and a younger son of Maharaja Shri Ajit Singh, Raja of Jodhpur), however, he had to cede Ahmednagar back to the state of Idar to be recognised in Jodhpur by the British.
So, on 29th October 1843, he ascended the gadi at the Sringar Chowki in Mehrangarh. Later in his life, he served in the Indian Mutiny of 1857, and ïn 1862 he received a sanad of adoption .
During his life he married thirty wives, his first wife being Shri Bada Ranawatiji Maharani Gulab Kanwarji Maji Sahiba, daughter of Thakur Shri Rod Singh of Dhamotar .
He died in Jodhpur on 13th February 1873 and was crematated there at Jaswant Thara .
He was succeeded by his firstborn son Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Jaswant Singh II in Jodhpur, while his thirdborn, Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Pratap Singh would go on to become the Maharaja of Idar.
His firstborn daughter, Maharajkumari Shri Chand Kanwar Baiji Lal, would be married to [[Shri Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, the Maharaja of Jaipur.
