Snejana Onopka (Template:Lang-uk, born December 15 1986) is a Ukrainian model.
Modeling career
Onopka moved to the Ukraine capital, Kiev, in 2001. While there, she was spotted by a foreign scout and thus began her career as a model.[2]
In 2005, she appeared in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Prada and caught the eye of Steven Meisel, who photographed her for two covers of Italian Vogue and for whom she is one of his "muses."[2] Onopka has also been on the cover of i-D, Numéro, Harper's Bazaar, L'Officiel, Elle Ukraine, Akademia, CM, and the Portuguese, Japanese, and French editions of Vogue. On the runway, she is commonly seen at shows including Chanel, Gucci, Christian Lacroix, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga.
Although she missed New York's Fall/Winter 2007 fashion shows while shooting the Shiseido Spring/Summer 2007 campaign, she returned to the runway for the Milan shows weeks later, walking for Burberry, Jil Sander, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and others.
Throughout her career Onopka has appeared in advertising campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Calvin Klein, Clé de Peau Beauté, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint-Laurent, Gucci, and Shiseido.
Onopka is signed to the modeling agencies Women Management (New York), Viva Models (Paris) and Why Not Model Agency (Milan).
Although Onopka formerly weighed around 45 kilograms (99lbs) at a height of 175cm (5'10"), she has since gained weight and her current weight would be closer to 55kg (121lbs), placing her at a healthier body mass index. She is however still referred to as one of the thinnest runway models although this is no longer true.
Personal life
Onopka has a residence in Ukraine but cites New York as her part-time home.[citation needed] She wants to study languages after her modeling career, saying, "I want to study languages. I want to know many languages. It's cool when you come to Europe, you can speak French. When you come to America, you can speak English, and when you come to Japan you can speak Japanese."[citation needed] She was quoted in Teen Vogue saying this about her family: "My mother collects tear sheets of everything she sees me in." And about her father: "My father was in a rock band when I was growing up, so he's used to the spotlight. I like to sing, too."[3]
