Itinerario is a refereed international academic history journal published three times a year by Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Leiden Institute for History, Leiden University. The journal's stated purpose is to provide a publishing platform for researchers studying the expansion of Europe in the context of colonialism between c.1500 and 1950. All articles are taken from a transnational perspective, considering the international interaction of Europe from a Western and non-Western viewpoint, making ''Itinerario'' an exponent of World History.

The journal publishes original research articles, archival notes, interviews and reviews.

Itinerario is also affiliated to the Forum on European Expansion and Global Interaction (FEEGI) in the USA.
