Svetozar Ristovski (born January 26, 1972) is a Macedonian film director who now resides in Canada. Largely inspired by filmmakers such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Stanley Kubrick, Federico Fellini, Robert Bresson and Michelangelo Antonioni, Ristovski developed a passion for filmmaking while living in Macedonia.

Biography

Ristovski was born in Veles, Macedonia and attended the University of St Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, where he studied architecture and filmmaking.

In 2001, he made his first documentary, Joy of Life, which was awarded Best Documentary at the GoEast Film Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany and Best Documentary (International Selection) at the Wine Country Film Festival in Napa Valley, California.

The critically acclaimed, Mirage (2004 film) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2004 and was screened in film festival official selections around the world, winning Ristovski: Best Feature at the Anchorage International Film Festival, Special Mention Feature Film at the Avanca Film Festival and was nominated for the Tokyo Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

In 2008/2009, Ristovski began working on Dear Mr. Gacy, a film about serial killer John Wayne Gacy and his interaction with a Las Vegas university student, Jason Moss, starring William Forsythe (actor) as Gacy and Jesse Moss as Jason.
