Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, recent vandalism in past 3 days by several IPs. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 23:12, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, New story on slashdot appears to be causing some editors to violate BLP here. (Ie, changing article to say "X is a rapist" as the first sentence). While this may be true, it's covered in the lede already. Probably should head off further BLP issues. Bfigura (talk) 22:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protect. There has been a very large amount of vandalism on the page during the last few months (almost every other edit) by new and unregistered editors, including recently. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:01, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection, Current good article; however this article is getting unstable over genre warring and a recent Facebook campaign to get RATM's song "Killing in the Name" to be Christmas Number One download in the UK. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 21:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. — ξxplicit 22:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. --JForget 21:31, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
WordGirl (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and List of characters in WordGirl (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Full protection vandalism, tons of vandalism by IPs, especially by 76.200.233.228. NoseNuggets (talk) 20:18, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Edits are not vandalism, and the number of edits (as well as the number of unique "vandals") is very low. tedder (talk) 21:53, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Semi-protection vandalism Persistent recurring vandalism to Mr. Wick's part of the Characters section. Since it's only targeting Mr. Wick and because of the content (saying Mr. Wick is "bisexual" and "has a cock second in length only to Drew Pickles") it is probably Barney Bunch related. There have also been racist edits made that replaced his profile with ebonics. Most vandalism by User:NegroBarney but several others as well.
Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

- Thanks for this, I assumed pre-emptive was okay, my mistake. Mycroft (talk) 18:49, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
semi-protection, Socks of Editor XXV vandalising page. Momo san Gespräch 18:38, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected indefinitely. tedder (talk) 18:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Semi-protection - due to repeated vandalism by an anonymous IP(s), who has been rebuffed by several editors not only myself. Yesterday my request for page protection was denied on the grounds of insufficiency, however I would day that at least 11 instances of the same vandalism by anonymous IPs belonging to the same editor since May alone should be sufficient for at least semi-protection. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 18:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Also it might be a good idea to block the IPs in question. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 18:41, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Question: can you verify this is vandalism? Is it discussed on the article page or elsewhere? tedder (talk) 18:43, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- It is pure vandalism, going on since May. No other editor has picked up the anonymous IP editor's allegation of a sexual relationship between Louis Hayward and Noel Coward. Not until today did he/she offer or proffer any evidence of that (since May), but the source provided is simply The Noel Coward Diaries (2000) by Noel Coward, Graham Payn and Sheridan Morley. I advised the anonymous IP editor that this was insufficient evidence. The dates, publisher, ISBN#, page numbers and exact quoting should be required to permit such an inflammatory and salacious comment to remain on this encyclopaedia. I cannot even revert his last edit for fear of violating WP:3RR. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 20:55, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism by insisting in putting images of blond Chileans. Take a look at history to see the history of reversals and the persistent anonimous attemps to show Chile as white-European country. Chilean people is also subject ot similar vandalism. Dentren | Talk 18:20, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. tedder (talk) 18:42, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Such a sad sight, this article's IP address were originally (and for a long time) in hand and weren't disruptive, now there's numerous IP addresses continuously vandalizing the page and/or making general disruptive edits alike. . GunMetal Angel 17:57, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The level hasn't been terribly high, but the genre warring and vandalism gets annoying. tedder (talk) 18:39, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection spambot target, Random IPs keep inserting the same vandalism, I think temporarily blocking non-registered or non-confirmed users will make them go away. TastyCakes (talk) 17:45, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The article is also protected, I'm IAR to protect both. tedder (talk) 18:37, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

- Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Blocked a couple of IPs too. tedder (talk) 18:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Semi Protect There has been too many anon IP users performing ongoing vandalism against this page. It was left unprotected, thus allowing IP users to freely vandalize this page. Take a look at the history revision, which explains anon IP users that are vandalizing the article. JMBZ-12 (talk) 17:09, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. The number of unique IPs vandalizing the article is only ~1 per day. tedder (talk) 18:23, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection, Massive recurring edits by anon IPs about a non-article related entry being reintroduced after it was first removed per discussion page consensus, suggest a temporary SPP to prevent the recurring problem from surfacing again. The regular editors at WP:MILITARY has got better things to do than to be dealing with this nonsense all day long, thanks you. Dave 1185 15:59, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Cirt (talk) 16:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Three IPs reverting the same rambling "ninja are elite special forces guerilla elite covert elite undercover elite commandos!" material in the past 24 hours; one was banned yesterday, it looks like they aren't giving up. Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IPs and new editors continuously change the country of origin of the dish. The current version is sourced, and no editors have made an attempt to use a new different source to back up their changes despite requests. I'm at a loss at to what else can be done. . Semi-protection vandalism and sockpuppetry. Taylor Karras (talk) 06:54, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of two weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. - I was going to decline this at first, but it does look like a case of using multiple IPs to edit in a disruptive fashion, and that I don't like. AlexiusHoratius 07:28, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Way too many anon IP edits doing what they please. Mostly vandalizing, adding false information, using the page as a forum, etc. Mike Allen talk · contribs 06:21, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
