The Story Prize is an annual book award that began in 2004 honoring the author of an outstanding collection of short fiction with a $20,000 cash award. Each of two runners-up will receive $5,000. Eligible books must be written in English and first published in the United States during a calendar year.

The 2004 winner was Edwidge Danticat for The Dew Breaker.

The 2004 finalists were Cathy Day for The Circus in Winter and Joan Silber for Ideas of Heaven.

The 2005 finalists are Jim Harrison for The Summer He Didn't Die, Maureen F. McHugh for Mothers and other Monsters, and Patrick O'Keefe for The Hill Road. The winner will be announced on January 25, 2006.
