Purge is a persistent, multiplayer online, FPS/RPG hybrid powered by a highly modified Lithtech Talon technology. Originally released in 2002, Purge was designed to perform well on the average computer of the day. Any modern PC today should be able to play Purge. Freeform Interactive has now officially made Purge a free game.
FreeForm Interactive have abandoned their purge project, purge is now run entirely by the community. purge-underground is the only purge server left.
Gameplay
The game consists of two teams, Chosen (Fantasy) and Order (Future). each team has 4 classes, each class has 4 different weapons and 4 different skills. the teams battle with each other as they try to defend their portal, and destroy the enemy portal.
The maps in Purge range from small scale for 2 to 24 players, to large for 10 to 64 players.
Critical reception
Both Gamespot and IGN rated Purge as "mediocre".[1][2] IGN highlighted detailed environments with well-defined textures and impressive effects, and it was argued that Purge was a notable example within the "character development" niche of action genre. Criticisms included indistinct vocal commands, some unsuitable weapon sound effects, a "practically nonexistent" playing community, lack of game modes and unpolished level design.

Ultimately, this action title is basic and bland, a testament to cliched design and rudimentary play mechanics.
