Ivete Sangalo
Ivete Sangalo (born 27 May 1972 at Juazeiro, Bahia) is a popular Brazilian singer and songwriter and her music is very influecied by axé music and MPB. She is actually a mass phenomenon in Brazil loved by young people generation. Her music is also very played in Portugal
Biography
Ivete Sangalo was born in May 27, 1972, Juazeiro, Bahia, Brasil, where she spent her childhood. She started her singing carrer in events at school and then started singing at a bar. After she received a Prêmio Caimmy, Bahia's somehow similar to the Grammy, she started to achieve some attention and signed with Sony Music.
In 1993, Sony decided to re-make axé group Banda Eva and she was chosed as lead singer. With her charismatic image, their first album soon reached Brazilian's top charts. Her last album with the band, Banda Eva Ao Vivo, was their best-selling album, selling over a million copies.
In 1997 she decided to start a solo carreer, and in 1999 she released her first album. With lots of upbeat Bahia rhythms and axé, the album received gold and platinum certification. In the next year, she released another album, Beat Beleza, that also achieved platinum.
In 2000, she released the album Se Eu Não te Amasse Tanto Assim (If I Hadn't Love You That Much), titled after her big hit that reached the first position in the singles charts. The album didn't sold as much as the first two, but was still a hit.
In 2001 she released the album Festa (Party), which included the big hit Festa. The single was very popular and the album got platinum certification.
Her 2004 album was her biggest hit. The album, from the MTV Ao Vivo series, was a live album and included her biggest hits, lots of them never released on an album before, and some Banda Eva hits. The album got huge sales, most of them because of the single Sorte Grande, that was renamed Poeira by the public, with the audience in soccer stadiums singing it during the matches. The song received huge airplays because it was a catchy and good song. The album received a diamond certification and was the 2nd best-selling album of 2004. The DVD which included the concert held at Font Nova stadium, sold over 600,000 and is the best-selling DVD in Brazil ever.
Her 2005 album, Super Novas, received triple platinum certification weeks after its release. The album was less upbeat than the others and it included lots of songs with 70's touch, with big influence of Brazilian singer Ed Motta. She also included the hit Soy Loco por ti America, a Caetano Veloso's song. Ivete's cover the theme song of Rede Globo's soap opera América.
Soon, Avon will release a perfume with her name.
