Michelle Lang

Michelle Lang (January 31, 1975, Vancouver, British Columbia – 30 December 2009, Kandahar, Afghanistan) was an award-winning Calgary Herald reporter and the first Canadian journalist to die in the War in Afghanistan.

Career

Born in Vancouver, Lang was a reporter at the Prince George Free Press and the Regina Leader-Post, then moved to Calgary to become a print journalist for the Calgary Herald. She won a National Newspaper Award in 2008 for best beat reporting.

Death

Lang was traveling in an armoured military vehicle as part of a convoy when the vehicle struck a roadside bomb.[1] She was on a six-week assignment to Afghanistan for the Herald and Canwest News Service.[2]
