Zavvi.com (Previously Zavvi.co.uk) is an online retail company owned by The Hut Group, formed in 2009, after the demise of the high street Zavvi stores.

Zavvi Retail

Zavvi started out in the UK in 1971 as Virgin Megastores, part of the Virgin Group that was created by Richard Branson. The first store was on Oxford Street, London. In 2007 it was renamed Zavvi after a management buyout. On 24 December 2008 it entered administration with Ernst & Young and all stores closed in February 2009.

Zavvi.co.uk & Zavvi.com

On 27 February 2009, Zavvi's website was replaced with a sole page containing the message: "Please come back on Monday 2nd March, 10am for exciting news!" -- the Zavvi logo and website address were placed above the message. The domain name was sold through the website Aftermarket.com, through an auction system, ending on 27 February at 16:00.

On Monday 2 March 2009 at 10:00, the Zavvi website was re-launched, after being purchased by The Hut Group. The website sells entertainment products in addition to a new range of items including perfume. Whilst retaining the same branding, Zavvi.com now has no relations to the former high street entertainment retailer and is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Hut Group.

In October 2009 Zavvi.co.uk changed to zavvi.com to capture a share of the European market.

It was reported in December 2009, that Zavvi will return to the high street in September 2010.[1]

Product range

Zavvi.com currently sell Books, Blu-ray, CDs, Computing, DVDs, Electronics, Gifts, Lingerie, Perfume, Sports & Leisure equipment and Video Games. CDs, DVDs and games are shipped from the Channel Islands due to favourable tax rates, other items are shipped from the UK mainland.
