Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the upcoming racing video game developed by Eden Games and published by Atari. It will be a sequel to Test Drive Unlimited (aka TDU) and the tenth game in the series. Its development was confirmed on N4G.com in February of 2008.[1]
On 2 December 2008, Atari stated in a press conference that various series, including Test Drive, would be revisited after 2009.[2]
On December 2009, it was found in a CV of a developer that a Test Drive High Life is in development.[3]
Storyline
The few rumours which claim to know the storyline tell the player has to get back to the top of carracing after going bankrupt after TDU took place.
Location
Nothing is confirmed about the new Test Drive location. It is said to take place on both an improved version of the TDU Oahu island, as well as an additional, fictional island.
Possible new features
Many artworkimages and images what are thought to be screenshots of an early testbuild, have shown that if they do resemble the next Test Drive, the game will get more features than TDU. Artwork includes icons indicating at working fuelgauges with a refillsystem for the gasstations, dynamic weather, a 24-hour day-night cycle, improved showrooms, offroad capabilities and offroad vehicles, and various new car functions such as covertible roofs, carwipers and turnsignals. Among some of the screenshots is an image showing the player will have to complete a driving school.
None of the images and artwork have been confirmed or denied to be the new Test Drive. Therefor it is also not known if the screenshots are severely editted TDU screenshots, or true screenshots of the new Test Drive features being tested on the old TDU gamebase. The screenshots show familiar places such as one of the airports and the Aston Martin showroom. On the airport screen, one can see an open-top SLK in a sort of practice mode, and a modified showroom of Aston Martin with a DB9 with turned frontwheels. Note that TDU had a closed SLK only, and steering the frontwheels in showrooms was not possible.
