West Side Avenue is a terminal station on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located near Claremont Avenue on West Side of Jersey City, New Jersey. The station opened on April 22, 2000.
The station is on an embankment above the east side of street, and consists of an island platform and two tracks. Bumper blocks are at the west end of the station while the platform continues with a pedestrian bridge and elevator connecting it a large park and ride lot and bus stations. [1]The former Central Railroad of New Jersey right of way formerly continued west across Newark Bay and there are proposals to extend the line to a station closeby, possibly the Hackensack Riverfront.
Direct northbound service from the station is available to Downtown Jersey City, Hoboken and North Hudson communities, terminating at Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen. Northbound service to Hoboken Terminal requires a transfer at stations between Liberty State Park and Pavonia-Newport. Connection to PATH trains to Midtown Manhattan and to New Jersey Transit commuter train service are available at Hoboken Terminal. Transfers to PATH trains to Newark, Harrison, and Downtown Manhattan are available at Exchange Place. The Liberty State Park Station is the transfer point for those traveling to Greenville and Bayonne) stations.
