High Throston is a suburb of Hartlepool within the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, in England. It is situated on the north-western edge of Hartlepool. The hamlet of High Throston (from the anglo Saxon thosson meaning hill)[citation needed] is situated on a promontory overlooking the Tees bay.[citation needed] It is famed for its golf courses in the country.[citation needed] Remains of a Viking longboat were discovered under one of the greenside bunkers during restoration work and a small museum has been built next to the golf club house.[citation needed] Visitors to the area should try to attend the annual flower show which attracts a huge number of visitors in late May.[citation needed]

The local football team, High Throston Rangers, were one of the founding members of the Northern Football Alliance and have played briefly in the (old) fourth division.[citation needed] Dixie Dean, the future Everton and England striker began his career at High Throston.[citation needed] Notable sporting heroes with links to High Throston also include Ian Botham, Viv Richards, Juan Huantarina and David Coleman whose family still run "Coleman's Corner Shoppe" on the High Street.[citation needed]

The Museum of Anne Frank, who stayed in High Throston for a number of months before the outbreak of WW2, is popular with visitors and members of the local Dutch/Afrikaan community.[citation needed]
