Escautpont is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Tis commune was named Scaldis Pons in antiquity ( Scalidis = the river Escaut and Pons = bridge ) because there was, at this place, the only one brige on the Escaut. The actualy name Escautpont is the contraction of two words Escaut ( the river ) and pont ( Bridge ).
