Escautpont is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Tis commune was named Scaldis Pons in antiquity ( Scalidis = the river Scheldt (Escaut) and Pons = bridge ) because there was, at this place, the only one brige on the Scheldt (Escaut). The actualy name Escautpont is the contraction of two frensh words : Escaut ( the river Scheldt ) and pont ( Bridge ).
