Myitsone Dam
Appearance
Myitsone Dam is a dam and hydroelectric power development currently underway in Kachin State, Burma on the confluence of the Mali River and N'Wali River. A large dam will flood an area the size of New York City and displace thousands of local people.[1] However, although the dam and reservoir is being constructed by theBurmese military government in coordination with the China Power Investment Company, the dam will be used to provide electricity to Yunnan rather than Kachin.[1]
The dam is reported to be 500 feet in height and width, and is projected to produce between 3,600 to 6,000 megawatts of electricity by 2017.[1]
